The reigning Class 3 state champions, the Fair Grove Lady Eagles, showcased their championship pedigree in a commanding performance during the Class 3 District 11 Tournament championship game at Springfield Catholic High School.
From the opening tip-off, Fair Grove asserted their dominance, scoring the first 10 points of the game and maintaining control throughout. Despite a brief surge from archrival Strafford, the Lady Eagles remained composed and ultimately secured a convincing 68-38 victory.
“It’s always good to beat Strafford,” remarked Lady Eagles guard Ashton Bell. “We’re ready to make another state run.”
The victory was a team effort, with ten Lady Eagles contributing to the scoreboard. Leading the charge were Brooke Daniels with 15 points, Abbey Green with 14 points, and Cam Hart with 11 points, all in double figures.
Coach Gary Greene praised his team’s performance, highlighting their confidence and resilience on the court. The win marked a stark turnaround from the previous game, showcasing the Lady Eagles’ ability to rise to the occasion when it matters most.
With their sights set on the next challenge, Fair Grove will face Mid-Lakes Conference foe Clever in the Class 3 sectional round. Having secured a decisive 75-54 victory over Clever earlier in the season, the Lady Eagles are poised to continue their journey toward another state title.
Reflecting on the season thus far, Coach Greene emphasized the rigorous competition his team has faced, with all seven of their losses coming against state-ranked opponents. Despite the challenges, the Lady Eagles remain undeterred, fueled by their determination to succeed.
As they look ahead to the coming weeks, Fair Grove draws strength from their cohesive teamwork and unwavering commitment to excellence. With each victory, they inch closer to their goal of defending their crown and cementing their place among the elite in Class 3 basketball.
